Exhibition Description

The Kampong is proud to present Rootwork, a solo exhibition featuring Naomi Fisher and her 25-year practice of botanically inspired art-making and community organizing in Miami. The exhibition highlights new sculptures and paintings inspired by the flora found in Miami alongside a selection of archival works that trace Fisher’s long engagement with the botanical world.

Rootwork speaks to the act of grounding — of drawing resilience, identity, and inspiration from the places that sustain us. As both artist and organizer, Fisher’s practice is deeply entwined with Miami’s ecosystems and communities. Her public art commissions have leveraged beauty as a strategy to unify diverse audiences and inspire environmental action. Her practice examines the persistent presence of natural forms in material culture — from ancient vines to Art Deco ornamentation — while employing, when possible, eco-friendly and sustainable materials. Her extensive public art experience includes commissions for Codina Partners, Givenchy, Oslo Kommunes Kunstsamling, the Henry, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Cymbal DTL, and The Underline Park.

Rootwork will present the botanical forms that have anchored Fisher’s career across painting, photography, ceramics, and large-scale sculpture. Works from her archive will illuminate her process, featuring studies and artworks that shaped major public art projects.

Public programming will extend Rootwork beyond the gallery, inviting audiences to connect with art and nature through hands-on and participatory experiences.
